Understanding STEM Schools
Overview
This Researchers Without Borders project grows out of a National Science Foundation funded project called "The Ohio STEM Learning Network: A Study of Factors Affecting Implementation, Spread and Sustainability." Read more about this NSF project here.
There is a lot of conversation in education focused on STEM schools. However, there is no shared understanding of what "STEM" Schools are. The purpose of this Researchers Without Borders Project is to help bring some common language to the field and create a foundation from which the field can continuously grow and improve high quality STEM education for learners.
This RWB project currently has two main areas of focus. The first is the identification and definition of essential elements or "critical components" of STEM schools as described by the schools themselves. We will organize these essential elements so that users can better understand which schools have which elements and see examples of those elements operationalized. Second, this RWB project seeks to facilitate interactions and collaborations among those interested in developing and improving STEM education.
The STEM Education Community Group space can be found in the "Community" section of Researchers Without Borders here.
The OSLN Understanding and Documenting STEM Schools project staff has written project briefs and technical reports that describe the work of the NSF project. See the briefs, reports and papers here.
